These warm apple turnovers are a delightful, flaky pastry filled with a sweet and spiced honeycrisp apple mixture. Fried to golden perfection, they’re topped with creamy ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce for the ultimate indulgence. Perfect for a cozy dessert or a special treat!
In a large bowl add the diced apples along with the brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and white granulated sugar. Fold together until the apples are completely coated.
THen heat a skillet on medium heat with 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted add the apple mixture and cornstarch.
Stir together and let the mixture simmer until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens slightly. Be sure to stir occasionally.
Once the filling is thickened, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the filling to cool for about 10 minutes.
Prepare the Puff Pastry
While the filling cools, preheat the oven according to the puff pastry package instructions.
Unroll the puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface.
Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into 6 even squares.
Assemble the Turnovers
Spoon a generous amount of the chilled apple filling into the center of each square.
Take each corner of the square and fold towards the center, press into the center together.
Use a pastry brush to coat the turnovers in milk, to help them become golden brown in the oven.
Bake the Turnovers
Place the apple turnovers in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and let cool a few minutes, before serving with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
